According to Jim, “My Father probably took these with his Rolleiflex – square format camera which is more handholdable as opposed to the 4×5 Graflex he and Uncle Rich were lugging around. Here are scans of some 4×5 negatives that took some extra work. In Jim’s words:

I think my Father didn’t initially wash these negatives thoroughly enough or it was defective hypo which caused them to deteriorate overtime. The blue stain showed up in the scans and no matter what I did in photoshop it didn’t help. So I took a chance, I re fixed the negatives in fresh hypo and thoroughly washed them, and sure enough I got most of the blue stain out – or  at least to a point where Photoshop’s software can do a decent job of editing.
